This will be a very short movie review.
My husband and daughter did not like this movie. I liked it although I agree with my husband that the movie could have been shorter by about 30 minutes. Our 3rd-grader didn’t like the tension of young Hugo constantly trying to avoid capture by the train station’s constable.
There are a few subtle comedic moments and I enjoyed the cinematography. I would recommend it, but the rest of my family would say, “skip it.”
I loved that the movie had a positive message about finding one’s purpose in life. The movie would probably be better for older children as it is based on the book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which is written for tweens.
*Spoiler alert*: I was thankful that there was a happy ending after all that young Hugo endured.
The movie is rated family-friendly.
If you watch the movie, let me know what you think.
