Several high-profile scandals recently revealed men being unfaithful to their wives and children among other misdeeds. But I know there are men who are fabulously faithful fathers and they don’t get much publicity. So I want to give these men a standing ovation today.
- It was Father’s Day yesterday and as a mother, I am very grateful that my husband is a fabulously faithful father. He has been faithful for almost 20 years of marriage and he was faithful during our dating years. His life paints a picture of marital fidelity for our daughter. [more]
She knows we don’t always agree with each other, but she also knows that we will work it out. She knows that real men don’t hit their wives or verbally abuse them. I love it when he asks her about her day and he really listens. He is not on the phone, texting, or watching TV when he interacts with her.
She is too young to fully appreciate what a gift she is receiving from her father’s undivided attention, but I am not. My heart warms with joy and gratitude. So dear dad, you are giving your child a priceless gift when you give her/him your full focus. I applaud you!
- I am privileged to know other men who are also man enough to admit when they have made a mistake and say “I’m sorry.” There are men like my husband who help their wives and don’t expect to be waited upon all the time.
- I also want to give a shout out to dads that pray for and with their kids. You are pointing your kids to the one perfect father of you and them: GOD.
- I know dads that coach their kids’ baseball teams, attend dance performances and various school events. They communicate, by their presence, to their kids: “You’re important. You are worth my time.” Their child may not be able to articulate it but they will feel loved.
Finally, I want to save the biggest applause for my heavenly Father, who has never abandoned me, and who delights in me just because I am His daughter. I never have to earn His love. He never disciplines capriciously or in anger. He patiently forgives again and again. He listens to me as I pour out my joys and sorrows to Him.
God is actually interested in what you and I have to say. Amazing!
