7 Things I Learned in February

1. If you’re not afraid of real transformation, I invite you to pray this prayer from The Transforming Center with me.

2. Grace never leaves us, in fact, the closer we get to Jesus, the more we need his grace. via Scott Perkins. . .(I have found this to be true in my life.)

This Godzone podcast interview with Scott Perkins tackles the issue of our identity in Christ.

Scott said he erroneously projected onto God the lie that if he performed well then God loved him more so he pushed himself in his ministry (in an unhealthy way).

(As a recovering people-pleaser, I address this lie in my book.)

Do we rely on a role, relationship, or a particular result for our identity or on what God says about our worth?

Listen to his vulnerable interview about finding his real worth: here.

3. My favorite quote this month on art is by John Ruskin:

“Imperfection is in some sort essential to all that we know of life. It is the sign of life… Nothing that lives is, or can be, rigidly perfect…there are certain irregularities and deficiencies which are not only signs of life, but sources of beauty.”

4. Five Styles of Responding to Conflict Resolution by Riverhouse Press.

See the graphic by Riverhouse Press here.

Each style has different strengths and weaknesses; different styles are optimal in different situations.

RP gives this example: a directing style is best when you’re grabbing your toddler out of the street and oncoming traffic but that same style is not optimal in a marriage.

I appreciated the little tutorial explaining the different styles.

5. A creative animated explanation of Heaven and Earth tying the idea of God’s Presence in the Old Testament and the New Testament.

5. A good movie can enlarge your world.

We watched the movie Hidden Figures as a family and loved it!!! A January list-wish fulfilled.

We also watched the sci-fi movie Arrival via RedBox rental. (Hubby’s idea)

Arrival made me think of how God loves after we watched one of the Extra interviews on the DVD. Weird, huh? I hope to write a post about it after my book club ends. Interested?

6. Reminder: Change involves loss.

To improve reader experience, I deleted the date from my blog posts permalink. Sadly, the comments to older posts also disappeared from the blog but not my Disqus account (whew!) because I appreciate your thoughts.

7. Are you looking to strengthen your prayer life?

My friend Jean Wise has some practical tips.

She also wrote a wonderful devotional called 40 Voices: A Lenten Devotional,  Whispers – Being with God in Breath Prayers and Spiritual Retreats: A Guide for Slowing Down to be with God.

So what did you learn last month?

Or what resonated with you from my list?

P.S. You’re invited to join our book club which ends before Easter so it can be part of your Lenten practice as I add new Lent-related material to each post.

By new, I mean not included in my book 7 Days of Soul Care. The more the merrier.
